Edgar Allen Poe formed the basis of the first
flicker club event way back in
1999.
It was the centenary of his death and we had
been approached by the Poe Society to stage a small film festival as a
tribute to the author.
However,
our involvement quickly escalated
to
our becoming the artistic directors
of the entire three month festival.
At the center of the festival, and indeed at the physical centre of Prague itself, was a major exhibition of the writer's life and work at the Charles University. It was an amazing experience. The entire building given over to a vast collection of original manuscripts, personal possessions, film posters, first editions, art from around the world inspired by his work, sculpture and live performance.
